LightBurn is the industry-standard software for the design, editing, and control of laser cutting and engraving machines. Unlike basic programs that merely send files to the machine, LightBurn combines a powerful vector CAD design environment with the ability to communicate directly with your laser’s controller, allowing you to manage the entire workflow from a single application.
Key Features
• Direct Machine Control: Allows you to configure power, speed, number of passes, cutting order, and air assist, while sending commands directly to your machine in real time.
• Comprehensive Vector Design: Includes advanced tools for drawing complex shapes, editing nodes, creating offsets, and performing Boolean operations (joining or welding shapes). This eliminates the need to rely on external software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape for everyday tasks.
• Layer-Based (Color) Workflow Management: Enables you to assign different colors to various parts of your design to instruct the laser on what to do. For example, you can set a black layer for engraving a logo and a red layer for cutting out the piece’s contour—all within a single session.
• Image Import and Vectorization: Supports common vector formats (.ai, .svg, .dxf, .pdf) as well as bitmap image formats (.png, .jpg). It also features an automatic vectorization tool that converts photos or simple graphics into lines ready for engraving or cutting.
• Multi-platform and Hardware Compatibility: Runs natively on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is compatible with the vast majority of controllers on the market, categorized by type: GCode controllers (common diode lasers such as AlgoLaser or Atomstack), DSP controllers (CO2 machines like Ruida), and Galvo controllers (fiber lasers).
• Interactive Preview: Allows you to simulate the laser head's movement in detail and estimate the exact time a job will take before starting the machine, helping to reduce material waste.
